A filter (10) comprising a porous material is arranged in a generally conical shape having an expandable base (11) and a vertex (12). A reservoir tip (15) is located at the vertex (12) for collecting filtered embolic material. The tip (15) communicates with a distal port (26) and lumen of an aspiration tube (20) for removing embolic material under vacuum. A vessel occluding device (60) comprising a non-permeable material having an expandable conical shape and communicating with an aspiration tube (20) is also disclosed. Methods of using the filter and occluding devices for protecting a patient from embolization during cardiovascular procedures are described.

L'invention concerne un filtre (10) constitué d'une matière poreuse et présentant une forme généralement conique. Ce filtre comprend une base extensible (11) ainsi qu'un sommet (12). Une pointe réservoir (15) située au niveau dudit sommet (12) permet de recueillir une matière embolique filtrée. Cette pointe (15) communique avec un orifice distal (26) et une lumière d'un tube d'aspiration (20) destiné à extraire cette matière embolique par aspiration. L'invention concerne également un dispositif d'occlusion de vaisseau (60) constitué d'une matière non perméable. Ce dispositif présente une forme conique extensible et communique avec le tube d'aspiration (20). L'invention se rapporte enfin à des méthodes d'utilisation de ce filtre et de ce dispositif d'occlusion pour protéger un patient contre une embolisation au cours d'une opération cardiovasculaire.
