A tubular arthroscopic sheath having improved irrigating fluid flow characteristics and having a quick coupling socket adapted to quickly connect to and disconnect from an associated arthroscopic tool provided with a mateable, generally cylindrical plug member. The fluid flow is enhanced by centering projections on the sheath interior and by turbulence minimizing fluid ports. The socket comprises an open ended cylindrical housing provided with a plurality of annularly spaced, cylindrical locking pins slidable within throughbores in the housing wall, the throughbores extending radially from the housing axis and axially skewed with respect thereto. Each pin is provided with a notch in its cylindrical surface adjacent the most radially outward end of the pin. A pair of slidable coaxial cylindrical actuating members is adapted to engage all the notches and capture the pins. Moving the slidable actuating members away from the open end of the housing causes the pins to slide radially outwardly in the throughbores. Allowing a bias means to urge the actuating members toward the open end of the housing causes the pins to slide radially inwardly.
Gaine tubulaire pour arthroscope présentant des caractéristiques d'écoulement améliorées du fluide d'irrigation et comportant une douille de raccordement rapide pour assemblage/désassemblage à un outil utilisé en arthroscopie muni d'une fiche de raccordement rapide de forme cylindrique. L'écoulement du liquide est améliorée par la présence de projections centrales à l'intérieur de la gaine et par l'aménagement d'orifices d'écoulement minimisant la turbulence. La douille de raccordement rapide comporte un boîtier présentant une extrémité ouverte dotée d'une pluralité de petites broches de verrouillage cylindriques dans une disposition annulaire pouvant coulisser dans des alésages pratiqués dans la paroi du boîtier, ces alésages étant disposés radialement par rapport à l'axe du boîtier et fixées axialement. La surface de chaque broche comporte une encoche à proximité de son extrémité la plus éloignée dans l'axe radial. Une paire d'actionneurs cylindriques en coulissement sur les encoches viennent en prise avec les broches. Le coulissement des actionneurs dans la direction opposée à l'extrémité ouverte du boîtier a pour effet de faire glisser les broches dans un axe radial et vers l'extérieur des alésages. Un mécanisme à ressort contraint les actionneurs vers l'extrémité ouverte du boîtier et fait glisser les broches dans un axe radial vers l'intérieur des alésages.
