ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An article adapted for applications where there are contacts with blood, especially medical applications, which article comprises a substrate coated with heparin or a heparin-based material. The novel feature in connection with the invention is that the heparin or heparin-based material is adhered to the substrate via a pre-adsorbed layer of lysozyme or derivative thereof. Especially good adhesion and effects of the bonded heparin are obtained when using metal or polymeric materials as substrates. Said article is preferably prepared by a pre-adsorption of lysozyme or derivative thereof from an aqueous solution and exposure, without any intermediate drying operation, to an aqueous solution of heparin or heparin-based compound. Use of the above-mentioned article for medical applica- tions.
