An accessory for firmly anchoring plants and the like at the bottom of an aquarium [2]. A support element [1] is sized to fit within the aquarium [2], and rests in close proximity and parallel with the bottom of the aquarium [2]. A means for removably fastening articles [9] to the support element [1] is provided, enabling the positioning and attachment of articles [9], such as live and artificial plants, anywhere along the surface of the support element [1]. In a preferred embodiment, the support element [1] is a grid having rectangular openings [13] adapted to receive coupling members [10] which fasten to the grid [1], and also firmly grip the article [9] to he anchored. As part of an under-gravel filtration system, a slotted support element [40] adapted to receive similar coupling members [10] enables articles [9] to be firmly anchored while at the same time providing filtration of the water within the aquarium [2].
