ABSTRACT Disclosed is a covering for a substrate which may be a shedded electrical insulator. The covering is formed, e.g. by moulding, of heat recoverable material and has internal transverse dimensions (diameter, if round) slightly smaller than the transverse dimensions of the substrate. The covering is converted to a heat-recoverable form by heating, expanding on a mandrel and cooling, followed by removal of the mandrel. The covering is then placed over the substrate and heated to shrink it tightly around the substrate, there being a small amount of unresolved recovery.
