A tape (2) covering for elongate substrates such as metal pipes (1) is provided. At least one edge of the tape is chamfered (5), and in preferred embodiments the angle of the chamfer is no greater than 25° especially no greater than 7°. In other preferred embodiments the tape comprises a backing layer (3) and an adhesive layer (4), both of which preferably include a chamfered edge, the chamfer preferably extending through both the backing layer and the adhesive layer. The tape is preferably heat recoverable, and the adhesive, if present, heat activatable. The tape may be installed according to a preferred method of the invention using induction heating, preferably at such high frequency that the ratio of the thickness of the substrate to the skin depth is at least 25:1.
L'invention concerne le recouvrement, par une bande (2), de substrats de forme allongée tels que des tuyaux métalliques (1). Au moins un bord de la bande est chanfreiné (5) et dans des modes de réalisation préférés, l'angle du chanfrein ne dépasse pas 25~, et plus particulièrement il ne dépasse pas 7~. Dans d'autres modes de réalisation préférés, la bande comprend une couche support (3) ainsi qu'une couche adhésive (4), ces deux couches comprenant de préférence un bord chanfreiné, le chanfrein s'étendant préférablement à la fois sur l'une et sur l'autre couche. Cette bande est de préférence thermorétractable, et l'adhésif, s'il est présent, est thermosensible. On peut poser la bande selon un procédé préféré de l'invention en utilisant de la chaleur par induction, mais à une fréquence élevée telle que le rapport de l'épaisseur du substrat et de la profondeur pelliculaire est au moins 25:1.
