IMPROVEMENTS IN ARTICLE-HANDLING APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In apparatus for inserting rod-like articles into a container, a stream of the articles is fed in a direction transverse to their lengths. A device successively forms articles from the stream into batches, this device including a conveyor and spaced retaining members associated with the conveyor for defining the batches on the conveyor with each batch comprising a stack of articles bounded at its ends by the retaining members. The batches are transferred from the conveyor into a container at a loading station and a container is conveyed through the loading station so that successive batches may be transferred into the container. - 1 -
