A hinge assembly for an articulated vehicle (10) having front and near frame portions (12, 14) joined at a pair of vertically aligned hinges (18, 20). Each hinge includes a similar roller bearing assembly (48) attached to the front frame portion and having a rotatable protruding trunnion (52). The rear frame portion includes recesses (70) for receiving the trunnions and trunnion caps (74) for retaining the trunnions. The trunnion of each bearing assembly includes a shoulder pin (118) with a lust bearing cone (134) plead against the shoulder (126) and a second bearing cone (142) spaced apart from the first cone. A spacer ring (154) received on the pin is biased against the second cone by an end cap (160) secured to the end of the pin. A shim pack (158) between the end cap and the end of the pin limits the amount by which the space between the cones may be narrowed to limit and control the pre-load of the bearing assembly.

Un ensemble d'articulation pour véhicule articulé (10) selon l'invention présente un châssis avant et un châssis arrière (12, 14) reliés entre eux au niveau d'une paire d'articulations alignées verticalement (18, 20). Chaque articulation se compose d'un ensemble de roulements à rouleaux similaires (48) fixés au châssis avant et présentant un tourillon rotatif saillant (52). Le châssis arrière présente des renfoncements (70) destinés à recevoir les tourillons et les chapeaux de tourillon (74) et à les retenir. Le tourillon de chaque ensemble de support est doté d'un axe épaulé (118) et d'un premier cône d'appui (134) placé contre l'épaulement (126) et d'un deuxième cône d'appui (142) à l'écart dudit premier cône. Une cale d'épaisseur (154) prenant appui sur l'axe est maintenue contre le deuxième cône au moyen d'un capuchon d'extrémité (16) fixé à l'extrémité de l'axe faisant ressort. Un bloc de cale (158) entre le capuchon d'extrémité et l'extrémité de l'axe permet de limiter la réduction de l'espace entre les cônes de manière à limiter et contrôler la pré-charge de l'ensemble de roulements.
