This invention is an artificial airway device used to facilitate lung ventilation in an unconscious patient; and methods of using , and inserting an artificial airway device. The device includes a curved but flexible airway tube (200), and a mask portion (100). A mask opening portion (110) is shaped so as to fit closely adjacent, and closely over the patient's laryngeal opening. A seating tip (120) includes a series of thin, flexible fins or gills (122, 125) which project from a finger portion (120) extending from the mask opening portion. The fins or gills seat against the pharyngeal side of the cricoid, just above the esophagus. The seating tip provides a reference ensuring that the mask portion is properly in place, and adequately anchored. An inflatable cuff (800) acts to anchor the airway in place.

Cette invention se rapporte à un dispositif de respiration artificielle servant à faciliter la ventilation pulmonaire chez un patient inconscient; et à des procédés d'utilisation et d'introduction d'un tel dispositif de respiration artificielle. Ce dispositif comprend un tube respiratoire incurvé mais souple (200) et une partie masque (100). Une partie ouverture (110) du masque est conçue selon une forme lui permettant de s'adapter étroitement à proximité adjacente au-dessus de l'ouverture du larynx du patient. Une extrémité d'appui (120) comporte une série d'ailettes ou de lames minces et souples (122, 125) qui font saillie depuis une partie languette (120) s'étendant à partir de la partie ouverture du masque. Ces ailettes ou lames viennent en appui contre le côté pharynx du cartilage cricoïde, juste au-dessus de l'oesophage. L'extrémité d'appui sert de repère pour que l'on puisse s'assurer que la partie masque se trouve dans sa position correcte et soit fixée de façon adéquate. Un manchon gonflable (800) sert à maintenir ce dispositif respiratoire en position fixe.
