This invention relates to artificially illuminated jewelry comprising batteries contained within a low-profile battery case, positioned underneath an ornament containing a light source such as an LED. The ornament is partly or entirely composed of clear or translucent material that allows light to escape through it from the light source, producing an attractive display. A cap which fits over the battery case opening has a conductive plate affixed to its inside panel comprising partially conductive inks configured so that the jewelry wearer may dim the light source, as well as turn it on and off, by rotating the cap. Removal of the cap allows the jewelry wearer to replace the batteries. The case, cap, batteries, and light may be incorporated into many different forms of jewelry. The ornament may take the same forms as conventional jewelry ornaments.
