ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Aryl alkenoic acid derivatives, and physiologi- cally acceptable salts thereof, are provided which are potent leukotriene antagonists and may be used for the treatment of circulatory diseases and pref- erably for respiratory diseases such as asthma. The derivatives have a general formula I Image (I) in which X is -S-, -SO-, -SO2- or -O-; W is CH=CH or CH2-CH2; o is 1 to 5; n is 1 to 10; m is 0 to 7; T and Z, same or different, represent oxygen or a direct bond; R2 and R3, same or different, represent hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, tri- fluoromethoxy, cyano or nitro groups; MS #1591 A represents carboxyl, tetrazolyl, CO2R4, CONR5R6 or nitrile group wherein R4 is lower alkyl and R5 and R6 are H, lower alkyl, alkylsulfonyl, arlysulfonyl or R5 and R6 together are an alkylene chain forming a ring; and R is Image or Image wherein B represents carboxyl, tetrazolyl, CO2R4, CONR5R6 or nitrile group wherein R4 is lower alkyl and R5 and R6 are H, lower alkyl, alkylsulfonyl, arlysulfonyl or R5 and R6 together are an alkylene chain forming a ring; R7 and R8, same or different, represent H or lower alkyl; R9 represents -OH, -O-alkyl, NH2 or a NHCH2CO2H group; and R10 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, CF3, CF3O, CN or NO2.
