The present invention relates to novel compounds of the general formula I (see formula I) wherein A~ and B~ independently of one another denote a proton, with the limitation that they do not both simultaneously denote protons, the equivalent part of the barium ion, an ion of the general formula II (see formula II) or an ion of the general formula III (see formula III) wherein X represents N, P, As or Sb, R11, R12, R13 and R14 represent, for example (C1-C30)-alkyl, R15 and R16 represent, for example, hydrogen or (C1-C6)-alkyl and wherein R1 to R8 denote, for example, hydrogen or (C1-C30)-alkyl. The compounds are useful as charge control agents in toners and developers and as charge improving agents in powders and varnishes.
