Compounds of the formula (See Fig.I) are useful psychotherapeutics and are potent serotonin (5-HT1) agonists and antagonists. Preferably, R1 is 4-methylpiper- azinyl, R2 is H, R3 is H or phenyl, R4 is phenyl, 3,4-dichloro- phenyl, 4-chlorobenzyl or 4-trichloromethylphenyl, R5 is H and X is H.
