ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of arteriosclerosis of mammals including human beings and poultry which comprises an ascochlorin derivative represented by the formula Image where R represents an alkyl radical having 2-4 carbon atoms and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and a method for preventing and treating arteriosclerosis by the use of the composition above are disclosed. Also disclosed is the method of preparing the above derivatives as well as the derivatives per se.
