This disclosure relates to a novel derivative of L-ascorbic acid which is stable, easily incorporated into cosmetically acceptable vehicles and enzymatically bioreversible in the skin to free ascorbic acid and a safe cholesterol component. An exemplary embodiment is 3'-(L-pscorbyl-2-phosphoryl)-cholesterol which is shown in Formula (I).
