The invention is directed to methods for identifying compounds that inhibit or prevent infection of cells by enveloped viruses such as HIV-1 by preventing or disrupting conformational changes in the viral transmembrane protein that are required for virus fusion with those cells, and the compounds discovered by such methods. The invention also includes using these assays as diagnostic assays to detect antibodies in virus infected individuals that inhibit the viral entry processes.

L'invention concerne des méthodes d'identification de composés qui inhibent ou préviennent l'infection des cellules par des virus à enveloppe, tels que le VIH-1, en prévenant ou en arrêtant les changements conformationnels de la protéine transmembranaire virale nécessaires à la fusion du virus avec lesdites cellules, ainsi que les composés découverts par ces méthodes. L'invention concerne également les utilisations de ces dosages comme dosages diagnostiques permettant de détecter chez des individus infectés par le virus des anticorps inhibant les processus d'entrée du virus.
