- 1 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided an assembly for opening and closing a closure lid of a grain bin or silo from a remote position, such as ground level. The assembly comprises a lever member having pivotally interconnected lower and upper levers with the lower end of the lower lever being pivotally mounted about a fixed pivot axis and the upper end of the upper lever being pivotally connected to one end of an operating arm the other end of which is pivotally connected to the upper end of a latch arm, a spring acting between the lower and upper levers resiliently to urge these levers towards a limit condition in which abutment portions of the levers are in contact to limit relative pivotal movement between the levers in a direction in which the upper lever pivots relative to the lower lever away from the operating arm. Intermediate its ends the latch arm is pivotally connected to the closure lid at a position diametrically opposite a fixed pivot axis about which the closure lid can be pivotally raised and lowered between a closed position and an open position, and the lower end of the latch arm presents a latch member which is engagable with a fixed bracket member when the closure lid is in the closed position thereof. A relatively stiff but resiliently deformable strip is adjustably connected between the closure lid adjacent the fixed pivot axis thereof and the operating arm adjacent the pivotal connection thereof with the upper end of the upper lever. When a flexible cord or cable connected to the upper end of the lower lever is operatively pulled there is relative pivotal movement between the levers against the influence of the spring with the latch member being initially moved out of engagement with the fixed bracket member with resilient deformation of the resiliently deformable strip, and thereafter the closure lid is pivotally raised about the fixed pivot axis thereof. Releasing of the cord or cable results in the closure lid being urged under the influence of the spring pivotally to be lowered to its closed condition.
