2089363 9203281 PCTABS00010 A plurality of rigid bars (12) made of wood, plastic or other material, are joined together to form an articulated assembly (11). A rope (14) is threaded through bores formed in the bars (12). Cylindrical spacers (13) are placed over the rope (14) between the bars (12). In an alternate embodiment, flexible interlocking elements (51) are connected to bores formed in the bars (12). When laid flat over a surface, the articulated assembly (11) may be used as a support that forms a deck, walkway, or similar structure. Other uses of the assembly (11) include a latticework, a barrier and a vertical support.
