Providing non-voice capabilities relating to a phone call at a computing device includes receiving a request to begin a telephone call from a first telephone to a second telephone, wherein the requesting is performed using messaging between computing devices connected via a computer network, and wherein the messaging is part of a signaling phase dialog. The signaling phase dialog may be used in providing information associated with the identity of parties of the telephone call. Commencing a call phase dialog between the computing devices may be performed after the telephone call is established over the public switched telephone network. The call phase dialog may allow messages relating to the telephone call to be passed between the computing devices, at least while the telephone call is in progress. The dialogs and messaging may be performed using session initiation protocol (SIP) or another computer communication protocol.

La présente invention permet de donner à un ordinateur des fonctions non vocales sur un appel téléphonique. Il s'agit de recevoir une demande de début d'appel téléphonique d'un premier téléphone à destination d'un second téléphone. La demande se fait pas messagerie entre ordinateurs raccordés à un réseau informatique, la messagerie appartenant à un dialogue de phase de signalisation. Ce dialogue convient à la fourniture d'information associée à l'identité des interlocuteurs de l'appel téléphonique. Le début du dialogue de phase d'appel entre les ordinateurs se fait après établissement de l'appel téléphonique via le réseau téléphonique public commuté. Le dialogue de la phase d'appel permet d'échanger entre les ordinateurs des messages concernant l'appel téléphonique, au moins pendant le déroulement de l'appel téléphonique. Les dialogues et la messagerie utilisent le protocole de lancement de session ou "SIP" (Session Initiation Protocol) ou un autre protocole de communication entre ordinateurs.
