The invention pertains to a novel gene present in cytological region 37D of the second chromosome which functions in associative learning and/or memory. Disruption of the gene, such as by P element transposon tagged insertion, results in decreased associative learning and/or memory. The invention also pertains to a novel protein encoded by the gene, antibodies which bind the encoded protein, and homologs of the novel gene which function in associative learning and hybridize to the DNA sequence of the novel gene.

Nouveau gène présent dans la région cytologique 37D du deuxième chromosome, qui fonctionne en apprentissage associatif et/ou mémoire associative. La perturbation de ce gène, comme, par exemple, par insertion d'un élément P marquée par transposon, entraîne une baisse de l'apprentissage associatif et/ou de la mémoire associative. L'invention porte également sur une nouvelle protéine codée par ce gène, des anticorps qui se lient à la protéine codée, et des homologues de ce nouveau gène qui fonctionnent en apprentissage associatif et qui s'hybrident avec la séquence d'ADN du nouveau gène.
