ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Textile filaments, which shrink asymmetrically when heat relaxed, are produced from drawn melt-spun filaments of a single synthetic linear organic thermo- plastic polymer by passing the drawn filaments in frictional contact over an unheated wear-resistant surface at high speed and under sufficient tension to generate substantially all the heat required to provide the asymmetric shrinkage properties, without otherwise heating the wear-resistant surface. The process provides higher speeds, greater efficiency of operation and more uniformly treated products than have been obtained heretofore with typical processes of the prior art, such as hot-pin crimping.
