ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel process for the asymmetric hydrogenation of a furoimidazole derivative of the general formula: Image I with hydrogen in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst to produce the corresponding diastereomeric dihydrofuroimidazole derivative of the general formula: Image II is described. Dihydrofuroimidazole derivatives of the general formula II are intermediates for the preparation of the vitamin (+)-biotin.
