An attachment for use with an exercise apparatus of the type having handlebars which are moveable by an operator relative to the operator's body position in order to perform exercises, the attachment comprising an elongate bar which is attached to both ends of the handlebars using linking members. The linking members are connected to the handlebars and the elongate bar using a rotatable connection between the linking members and the handlebars, and either a rotatable or a non-rotatable connection between the linking members and the elongate bar. The operator grips the elongate bar while performing exercises, and the rotatable connection between the linking members and the handlebars permits the elongate bar to rotate about the handlebars in order to increase the versatility of the exercise apparatus.
