A device mounted onto a reciprocating type door closer is disclosed wherein the device consists primarily of a holding sleeve and a pivotable barrier. A restraining structural element forming part of the holding sleeve confines the door closer check in proximity with the door closer cylinder during the opening movement of the door whereas the pivotable barrier operates in a plan transversal to the door closer rod between the door closer cylinder and the door closer check to further confine the door closer check between the barrier and the restraining structural element during the closing movement of the door. The door closer check is allowed to come in contact with the door closer cylinder and firmly clench on the door closer rod when the pivotable barrier is raised during a closing movement of the door such that the door closer rod can carry the door closer check toward the door closer cylinder. The door closer check is released from a clenched position by an opening movement of the door that allows the pivotable barrier to gravitationally regain position between the door closer cylinder and the door closer check.
