ABSTRACT The proposed attachment is suitable for use in conjunction with rail vehicles, and more particularly in conjunction with passenger cars possessing UIC traction-and-buffing devices whose parting planes slide over each other by reason of pre- tension and which furthermore when uncoupled extend beyond the plane of the buffer heads belonging to the same rail vehicle. The proposed attachment comprises buffer deflecting means designed to be attached in mirror-inverted fashion, to both left and right hand sides of a communication device in order to protect the components of the latter from collisions with the buffers of the other rail vehicle. Usually, such means comprise essentially three, preferably flat surface areas which meet each other at angles. The proposed device can, however, comprise only two such surfaces, namely a slip face and an impact face or feature only one of continuous solid face-bearing bodies. Fitting of the proposed device on passenger cars featuring UIC-traction-and-buffing gear possessing prestressed communications systems capable of damping shock waves arising from high speed rail travel, whose parting planes are capable of sliding over each other and furthermore when relaxed project beyond the plane of the buffer head of the rail vehicle to which they belong, are prevented from colliding with the buffers of other rail vehicles to which they are to be hooked.
