An autoignition propellant (AIP) is disclosed for use in conjunction with gas generative compositions for air bags to reduce the autoignition temperature of said propellant without adversely affecting the AIP's storage thermal stability. Said AIP consists essentially of A) a mixture of a) about 60 to 80 % by weight KClO3, b) about 15 to about 30 % by weight lactose and c) about 1 to about 10 % by weight of an aliphatic polycarbonate and B) and autoignition lowering effective amount of superfine iron in an amount up to 10 % by weight based upon the combined weight of A) and B). A method of using the AIP to lower autoignition temperatures and an air bag inflator containing the AIP are also disclosed.
Cette invention se rapporte à un agent propulsif pour auto-inflammation (AIP autoignition propellant) utilisé, dans les coussins pneumatiques de sécurité, en association à des compositions productrices de gaz, et à un procédé permettant de réduire la température d'auto-inflammation dudit agent propulsif sans nuire à sa stabilité thermique de stockage. Ledit agent propulsif pour auto-inflammation est constitué principalement (A) d'un mélange comportant a) 60 à 80 % environ en poids de KClO¿3?, b) environ 15 à environ 30 % en poids de lactose et c) environ 1 à environ 10 % en poids d'un polycarbonate aliphatique et (B) de fer super fin en quantité efficace pour abaisser la température d'auto-inflammation et pouvant représenter jusqu'à 10 % en poids du poids combiné de (A) et de (B). L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé d'utilisation de cet agent propulsif pour auto-inflammation visant à abaisser les températures d'auto-inflammation et à un dispositif de gonflage d'un coussin pneumatique de sécurité contenant ledit agent propulsif pour auto-inflammation.
