21 AUTOMATED INDUSTRIAL PROCESS SIMULATOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An interactive training system (10) for simulating industrial equipment and processes. The system (10) can operate in both free play and procedural modes. The system (10) includes a plurality of displays (160, 168) simulating views of the industrial equipment and processes. Graphics overlays are used to simulate the appearance of displays and manipulable controls on the equipment. The graphics overlays are manipulated by the user by means of touch-sensitive screens (24, 98) to simulate the operation of actual controls. Glass I/O software (96) controls the touch screen input and display generation. Simulation software (128) controls the commands which generate the simulated visual and audio outputs. A procedure monitor software (120) specifies what presentations are to be made based on internally stored courseware. The system (10) can be utilized by a user entirely by means of the touch screen (24) thus avoiding the necessity of using a keyboard. Significant cost savings result from avoidance of the use of actual industrial equipment for training.
