The system for automatically dispensing medications or other medical elements includes several groupings, i.e. vaults, of storage members, each vault containing approximately 100 individual cartridges, which each contains packages of unit-of-use doses of a given medication or other medical supply, such as syringes. Each storage member includes an ejector which ejects selected medications/supplies to a supply trough. The packages in the trough are moved to a central collator, which dispenses them to a bin receptacle which has been moved underneath the collator and which is typically identified with a particular patient. Information concerning medications/supplies for a particular patient is stored in a system database and used to determine the particular medications/supplies dispensed into the given bin. Bar coding is used to maintain control over the bins, and the medications, forming a closed information/control system. Particular medications and/or supplies which are not available in the automatic dispensing system are supplied from a supplemental medications cart which has been previously stocked with the correct additional medications by virtue of information from a control computer. The filled bins are transferred to a medication cart which can only be accessed as a result of a command signal after a particular patient and his/her associated bin have been matched. A nurse, having access to the correct bin and sector thereof, removes the medications from the cart and administers them to the patient.
La présente invention concerne un système de distribution automatique de médicaments et autres articles médicaux et comprenant plusieurs groupements, c'est-à-dire alvéoles, de modules de stockage. Chaque alvéole contient environ 100 cartouches individuelles contenant chacune des monodoses emballées d'un médicament précis ou d'un autre article médical tel que des seringues. Chaque module de stockage comporte un éjecteur qui éjecte les médicaments ou articles sélectionnés vers une gouttière d'approvisionnement. Les emballages se trouvant dans la gouttière sont transportés vers un collecteur central qui les distribue dans un bac réceptacle qui a été placé en dessous du collecteur et qui est identifié de façon spécifique pour un patient déterminé. Les informations se rapportant aux fournitures ou aux médicaments destinés à un patient défini sont conservées dans une base de données du système et servent à déterminer les fournitures ou médicaments particuliers distribués dans le bac considéré. Pour garder trace des bacs et des médicaments, on utilise un système de code barres s'intégrant à un système cohérent d'informations et de gestion. Ceux des médicaments ou des fournitures qui ne sont pas disponibles dans le système de distribution automatique sont fournis depuis un chariot de médicaments de complément qui a été préalablement chargé des médicaments de complément au vu des informations fournies par un ordinateur de gestion. Les bacs remplis sont transférés vers un chariot à médicaments qui n'est accessible qu'à la suite d'un signal de commande, une fois qu'on s'est assuré de la pertinence entre un patient particulier et le bac qui lui est associé. Une infirmière ayant accès au bon bac et au secteur de ce bac retire les médicaments du chariot et les administre au patient.
