ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for connecting cigarette manufacturing machines and a cigarette package feeding apparatus to a loading mechanism of a hopper arranged to feed groups of cigarettes to a wrapping line of a packaging machine includes a transfer device having a pair of conveyors connected to arrival and removal stations for full and empty packages of the filling device, a storage conveyor with bi-directional intermittent movement and a transformer, a memory device connected to each manufactur- ing machine and to the packaging machine for controlling actuation of each transformer to transfer empty packages from stepwise moving conveyors to an arrival station for empty containers of the filling device of a cigarette manufacturing machine when the latter and the packaging machine are operating, to a storage conveyor when the packaging machine is operating and the cigarette machine is stationary, and from the storage conveyor to the arrival station for empty packages of the filling device of a cigarette machine when the latter is operating and the packaging machine is stationary.
