ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to an automatic braking apparatus and method. According to the invention, a programme speed is produced from a selected deceleration law, which is compared with a function of the speed of the vehicle, which can be the vehicle speed, to derive therefrom an error signal used to control the actuation of braking members of the vehicle so that braking of the vehicle occurs in accordance with the given deceleration law. The invention has use in braking vehicles, in particular aircraft.
