A device for the automatic stacking and counting of coins is provided by serially positioned, inclined cartridges, each containing a plurality of coin receiving tubes. Coins sliding over the inclined superior surface of a cartridge, fall into the first-encountered coin receiving tube. Each tube collects a predetermined number of coins. Where a coin encounters a coin receiving tube that is full, it slides over the top of that tube and over any subsequentlyencountered full tubes, until an empty or partially filled tube is encountered, whereupon coins fall into that tube. Where all coin receiving tubes in a cartridge are full, coins slide over the entire length of the inclined superior surface of that cartridge onto the inclined superior surface of the adgacent downstream cartridge, and so on. Coins contained in full, coin receiving tubes are effectively counted in stacks suitable for rolling in coin wrappers.
