Features extracted from network browser pages and/or network search queries are leveraged to facilitate in detecting a user's browsing and/ or searching intent. Machine learning classifiers constructed from these features automatically detect a user's online commercial intention (OCI). A user's intention can be commercial or non-commercial, with commercial intentions being informational or transactional. In one instance, an OCI ranking mechanism is employed with a search engine to facilitate in providing search results that are ranked according to a user's intention. This also provides a means to match purchasing advertisements with potential customers who are more than likely ready to make a purchase (transactional stage). Additionally, informational advertisements can be matched to users who are researching a potential purchase (informational stage).
Selon l'invention, des caractéristiques extraites de pages d'un navigateur et/ou de demandes de recherche sur un réseau sont optimisées pour faciliter la détection d'une intention de navigation et/ou de recherche d'un utilisateur. Des classificateurs d'apprentissage automatique construits à partir de ces caractéristiques détectent automatiquement une intention commerciale en ligne (OCI). Une intention d'un utilisateur peut être commerciale ou non commerciale, les intentions commerciales étant informatives ou transactionnelles. Dans un mode de réalisation, un mécanisme de classement d'OCI est employé avec un moteur de recherche pour faciliter l'obtention de résultats de recherche classés en fonction d'une intention d'un utilisateur. On obtient ainsi également un moyen pour mettre en correspondance des publicités commerciales avec des clients potentiels particulièrement prêts à effectuer un achat (phase transactionnelle). Par ailleurs, des publicités informatives peuvent être mises en correspondance avec des utilisateurs qui recherchent un achat potentiel (phase informative).
