This system includes a chassis-mounted truck that can move in one direction or another crosswise to the hog carcass conveyor. The truck supports a circular saw located in a vertical plane at an adequate height to sever the legs extending beyond the conveyor. The truck also supports a system hanging vertically from a horizontal pivot at a predetermined distance corresponding more or less to the average length of the legs to be severed. A control system is operationally connected to a sensor installed to detect the passing of legs. The control system is also connected to a movement detector designed to detect any sway of the plate and to a jack designed to move the truck. The control system is activated as soon as the sensor detects the passing of a leg. It then activates the jack, moving the plate mounted on the truck toward the conveyor until it is in contact with the leg, or moving the truck in the opposite direction until the plate is no longer in contact with the leg, as the case may be. The establishment or ceasing of contact with the leg is detected by the movement detector, which gives a signal stopping the movement of the saw when it is an optimum leg-cutting position

Ce dispositif comporte un chariot de support monté sur un châssis de façon à pouvoir se déplacer dans un sens ou dans un autre dans une direction transversale au convoyeur sur lequel se déplacent des carcasses de porc. Le chariot supporte une scie circulaire s'étendant dans un plan vertical et à une hauteur adéquate pour couper les pattes dépassant du convoyeur. Le chariot supporte également un dispositif suspendu verticalement à un pivot horizontal à une distance prédéterminée de la scie correspondant sensiblement à la longueur moyenne des pattes à couper. Un système de contrôle est relié de façon opérationnelle à un capteur de présence disposé de façon à repérer le passage des pattes. Il est aussi relié à un détecteur de mouvement conçu pour détecter tout balancement de la plaque, et à un vérin pour déplacer le chariot. Ce système de contrôle est activé dès que le capteur de présence repère le passage d'une patte. Il actionne alors le vérin pour déplacer la plaque montée sur le chariot vers le convoyeur en vue d'amener cette plaque en contact avec la patte si elle ne l'est pas déjà, ou pour déplacer le chariot en sens opposé en vue d'amener le plaque hors de contact avec la patte si celle-ci était déjà en contact avec elle. Le contact ainsi établi ou la cessation de contact avec la patte est détecté par le détecteur de mouvement qui donne alors un signal stoppant le déplacement de la scie qui se trouve alors automatiquement placée en position optimale de coupe de la patte.
