An automatic pressurizable lubricant dispenser comprises a vessel holding a supply of a fluent lubricant and having one side formed with an outlet adapted to be connected to a machine to be lubricated and an opposite open side sealing closed by a cover provided with a cap fittable like a piston in the vessel and forming with the cover a substantially closed chamber holding a supply of a reactive liquid. The cover is formed with a threaded seat opening into the chamber. A removable partition closes the seat and segregates it from the liquid-holding chamber. A gas-generating cartridge has an inner part having a basket holding a reactive element capable of reacting with the liquid and forming a gas. Screwthreads between the cartridge and the vessel serve for displacing the inner part on forward rotation relative to the vessel between an upper position holding the reactive element and the basket out of the chamber and above the partition and a lower position with the basket and reactive element engaged past the partition and into the chamber for contacting the element with the liquid for generating gas in the chamber and forcing the cap like a piston away from the cover into the vessel to pressurize the fluent lubricant therein. With this system it is possible on reverse rotation of the part relative to the vessel for the element and basket to move out of the liquid-holding chamber.
