An automatic rotamoulding apparatus in which hollow plastics products can be manufactured by rotational moulding with minimal or no manual intervention. A rotatable mould assembly (42) of the apparatus incorporates a pair of moulds (40) comprising first and second components (64, 66) forming the lid and base respectively of the respective moulds. The lid (64) of the mould is movable relative to the base (66) between a closed position in which the mould is ready to receive a shoe of plastics material powder and an opened position in which the finished rotamoulded product can be removed. Each mould (40) is provided with a pair of pneumatic rams (70) for moving the lid (66) between the opened and closed positions. Each rotatable mould (40) is provided with a plurality of electric heating elements (74) for heating the lid and base (64, 66) of the moulds during rotational moulding. Each rotatable mould (40) is also provided with a plurality of temperature sensing devices (84) arranged to sense the temperature at the inner surface of the mould. An injector (90) is provided for delivering powder to the mould (40) during rotation of the assembly (42). The whole of the moulding process is computer controlled, including delivering a shot of powder to the mould rotating the mould, controlling the heating of the mould in accordance with a pre-determined temperature profile, cooling the mould and ejecting the finished rotamoulded product. Advantages include reduced labour content, decreased production cycle time, more efficient "double dump" procedure and improved quality control.
Appareil de rotamoulage automatique permettant de fabriquer des produits en plastique creux par moulage rotatif sans intervenir manuellement ou avec une intervention manuelle minimum. Un ensemble moule rotatif (42) de l'appareil comporte une paire de moules (40) comprenant des premier et second composants (64, 66) formant le couvercle et la base, respectivement, des moules. Le couvercle (64) du moule est mobile par rapport à la base (66) entre une position fermée dans laquelle le moule est prêt à recevoir une charge de matière plastique en poudre et une position ouverte dans laquelle le produit rotamoulé fini peut être démoulé. Chaque moule (40) est pourvu d'une paire de vérins pneumatiques (70) permettant de déplacer le couvercle (66) entre la position ouverte et la position fermée. Chaque moule rotatif (40) est pourvu d'une pluralité d'éléments électriques chauffants (74) destinés à chauffer le couvercle et la base (64, 66) des moules lors du moulage par rotation. Chaque moule rotatif (40) est également pourvu d'une pluralité de capteurs de température (84) destinés à détecter la température au niveau de la surface intérieure du moule. Un injecteur (90) est prévu pour amener la poudre au moule (40) lors de la rotation de l'ensemble (42). L'intégralité du processus de moulage est commmandée par ordinateur, y compris l'apport d'une charge de poudre de matière plastique au moule, la rotation du moule, la commande de chauffage du moule en fonction d'une courbe de température prédéterminée, le refroidissement du moule et l'éjection de la pièce rotamoulée finie. Les avantages de l'appareil sont: une main-d'oeuvre réduite, une durée des cycles de production réduite, un processus "double décharge" plus efficace et un contrôle de qualité amélioré.
