ABSTRACT An automatic signal level adjusting circuit for use in a telephone set. A current detecting resistance element is serially connected in a loop for supplying current to the telephone set. A switching circuit is ON-OFF controlled in response to the voltage drop across the resistance element in turn controlling an impedance element selectively connected across the loop for adding AC loss. The switching circuit comprises two three terminal semiconductor switching elements, one of the switching elements being connected to be ON-OFF controlled in response to the voltage drop across the current detecting resistance element, and the other switching element connected to be ON-OFF controlled in response to the operation of the first switching element and connected in series with the impedance.
