ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An automatic wrapping machine includes a turntable for holding a load positioned adjacent a film support which dispenses a roll of stretchable film, a brake for tensioning and stretch- ing the film, a clamp on the turntable adjacent the load to hold the film while the turntable and load rotate, allowing the film to wrap the load. The clamp releases the film after completion of at least one revolution and withdraws from the film. A film cutter adjacent the turntable cuts the film after the load is wrapped, clamps the free end of the film in a secured position and positions the film web for engagement by the turntable clamp to hold it for the wrapping of the next load. The cutter has a pair of cooperating aligned jaws pivotally mounted for hori- zontal travel which allow the load to freely rotate when they are in a first position and engage the film in a second position to cut and clamp it near one side of the load after the load is wrapped. One of the jaws has a film cutting blade mounted next to a film clamping pad member. The other jaw has a substan- tially "U" shaped cross-section made up of two operative edges so that when the jaws close, one operative edge draws the film web into a cutting position and the other operative edge en- gages the pad member to clamp the film, the two operative edges providing a captive space between which the film cutting blade can sever the film.
