A shale shaker (20) or the like comprises a hollow body (42) having an inlet and an outlet (49). A screen (46) is mounted generally horizontally in the hollow body between the inlet and the outlet. A motive assembly (56) is operatively connected to the screen for repetitively moving the screen. A least generally horizontal tube (60) is connected to the screen for movement there-with. A solid weight (62) freely movable longitudinally in the tube automatically adjusts the center of gravity of the attached screen.
