A gear box assembly for automatically engaging and disengaging an output gear (60) which is non-rotatably concentrically mounted on a driven axle shaft (32) attached to plural wheels (34, 36) in a children's ride-on toy is described. The assembly includes an electric motor (56) with a pinon (42) driving plural driven gears (44, 48, 52), and a yoke (70) which is pivotable between two positions and provides a mount for at least one of the plural driven gears. In one position, the yoke pivotally engages the output gear (60) and drives the vehicle's wheels, and in another position, the yoke pivotally disengages the output gear thereby allowing the vehicle's vheels to freely rotate without driving or back-driving the motor or other gears. In the preferred embodiment, the yoke is counterbalanced for rotation about a defined axis. In alternative embodiments, the yoke includes a friction member (72) for developing friction between one of the driven gears to rotate the yoke into engagement.
L'invention porte sur un ensemble à boîte de vitesses destiné à venir en prise avec une roue dentée de sortie (60) et à se dégager de celui-ci, à montage concentrique non rotatif sur un corps d'essieu d'entraînement (32) rattaché à plusieurs roues (34, 36) d'un jouet sur lequel un enfant se tient à cheval. Cet ensemble comporte un moteur électrique (56) pourvu d'un pignon (42) entraînant plusieurs roues dentées menées (44, 48, 52) et d'un étrier (70) pouvant pivoter entre deux positions et qui permet de monter l'une, au moins, des roues menées. Dans une position, l'étrier met en prise, par pivotement, les roues dentées menées avec la roue dentée de sortie (60), ce qui provoque l'entraînement des roues du véhicule, tandis que dans l'autre, il libère, par pivotement, la roue dentée de sortie, ce qui permet aux roues du véhicule de tourner librement sans entraîner en avant ou en arrière le moteur ou d'autres roues dentées. Dans le mode de réalisation préféré, l'étrier est équilibré pour tourner autour d'un axe déterminé alors que dans d'autres modes de réalisation, il comporte un organe de friction (72) destiné à provoquer une friction entre lui-même et l'une des roues dentées menées afin de le faire tourner pour la mise en prise des roues dentées menées.
