An automatically expansible pulley comprises a hub fixed to a shaft, the hub having numerous resilient flexible beams extending outwardly from it. The ends of the beams having pins fixed parallel to the shaft. Loosely mounted on the shaft, a disc provides radially guided slots for the pins slide. The belt rides on the pins or the shaft and bends the beams depending on the torque applied to the shaft and belt tension. The pins and disc allowing the bending in each beam to be synchronized.
