ABSTRACT: An air conditioner for use in an automobile comprises a generally rectangular box casing that is curved to conform with the curvature of the ceiling of the automobile and has an air inlet and an air outlet defined at opposite sides thereof. A generally elongate evaporator is accommodated in the casing adjacent the air inlet. A cylindrical blade wheel connected to a motor with their axes aligned generates an air flow through the evaporator. A stabilizer is arranged under the fan unit towards the air outlet, and an air flow deflector for controlling the direction of air flow is located between the fan unit and the air outlet. A diffuser with a beam on its lower surface controls the air flow above the blade wheel. The result is an air conditioner that is more compact and less bulky in the vertical direction.
