INVENTION: Automobile Washing Apparatus INVENTOR: Ronald McIntyre and Ivan J. Barber ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A washer arm assembly for use in washing a vehicle moving relative to the washer arm assembly is described. The assembly includes a support frame, and a pivoting arm assembly including a primary arm pivotally connected to the frame and a secondary arm pivotally connected to the primary arm. A wash brush is rotatable mounted to the secondary arm for rotation about a vertical axis. Motion of the arm assembly is guided by a telescoping control rod pivotally connected to each of the secondary arm and the frame, a pneumatic cylinder which urges pivotal movement of the arm assembly in a predetermined angular direction, and a stop which limits the pivoting movement whereby the arm assembly locates in a rest position in which the brush is positioned in the path of the vehicle. The direction of rotation or the brush and the relative location of the pivotal axes of the various members are so selected that in use the brush is constrained to travel across the front of the vehicle, along one side, and then across the back of the vehicle while returning to the rest position. No position sensing switches or hydraulic controls are required to guide the arm assembly.
