AN AUTOMOTIVE AIR BAG CUSHION WHICH HAS VENT HOLES WHICH ARE COVERED WITH LAYERED STRUCTURAL REINFORCING AND FILTER MATERIALS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved device for filtering gas which is exhausted form vented air bag cushion which are used in passenger vehicles. A novel filter patch is attached to the air bag and covers gas vents located in the walls of the cushion. The filter patch comprises a reinforcement layer and a filter layer, which acts to particulate matter contained in the generated gas which inflates the air bag cushion. Additionally, a number of support layers can be added to the filter patch in order to provide a more resilient patch which can function under the high pressures created in the air bag as a result of a more vigorous collision.
