A system in a moving surveillance vehicle operates in background mode to capture images of license plates of neighboring moving vehicles, which may occupy lanes other than the lane in which the surveillance vehicle is moving. The images are used to determine the license plate numbers of the moving vehicles, which are then checked against a database to determine whether there are any potential law enforcement-related problems that require the attention of the operator. If so, the system alerts the operator using an audible tone, visual prompt, vibration, or in some other suitable manner. The entire process, including generation of the alert can occur autonomously of the operator.
La présente invention concerne un système mis en place dans un véhicule de surveillance en déplacement, qui fonctionne dans un mode de fond pour prendre des images de plaques d'immatriculation de véhicules voisins en déplacement qui peuvent également se trouver dans des voies de circulation différentes de celle dans laquelle le véhicule de surveillance se déplace. Les images sont utilisées pour déterminer les numéros d'immatriculation des véhicules en déplacement, lesdits numéros étant ensuite soumis à une vérification dans une base de données afin de déterminer l'existence d'éventuels problèmes liés au respect de la loi, nécessitant l'attention de l'opérateur. Si c'est le cas, le système avertit l'opérateur au moyen d'un signal sonore, visuel ou vibratoire, ou d'une autre manière appropriée. L'intégralité du processus, y compris la production de l'avertissement, peut se dérouler indépendamment de l'opérateur.
