A chicken interferon gene coding for the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 is disclosed. There is also disclosed a method of producing biologically active chicken interferon recombinantly, a method of isolating other non-mammalian interferon genes, a method of making a transgenic fowl having the chicken interferon gene incorporated therein, and method for delivery of the chicken interferon in the bird, such as by genetic immunization or aerosol. Expression of said gene yields functional chicken interferon.

L'invention concerne également un procédé de production d'interféron aviaire biologiquement actif par recombinaison, un procédé d'isolement d'autres gènes d'interféron non mammifères, un procédé d'obtention d'une poule transgénique renfermant le gène d'interféron aviaire, et un procédé d'administration de l'interféron aviaire à l'oiseau, tel que par immunisation génétique ou par aérosol.
