AXIAL CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM FOR SCROLL-TYPE FLUID DISPLACEMENT APPARATUS ABSTRACT A scroll-type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed having an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the axial clearance between the spiral elements and end plates of the fixed and orbiting scrolls. The axial position of the fixed scroll within the casing of the apparatus -- and, therefore, the axial clearance between scrolls is adjustable by means of a locating mechanism, such as an adjusting screw threadably engaged with the end plate of the casing and in contact with the end plate of the fixed scroll. The fixed scroll is stabilized within the casing to maintain parallelism of the scroll end plates by mating, rela- tively axially slidable guide projections on the end plate of the fixed scroll and the end plate of the casing.
