An axial flux switched reluctance motor utilizes one or more rotor discs spaced along a rotor shaft, each rotor disc having a plurality of rotor poles spaced along the periphery thereof. Stator elements are distributed circumferentially about the rotor discs and form pairs of radially extending stator poles for axially straddling the rotor discs. Stator coils as switched on to energize pairs of stator poles for forming an axial and radially inward flux path for rotating the rotor poles for minimizing the flux path before switching off the stator coil. Two or more rotor discs can be rotationally indexed for providing two or more motor phases. In manufacture, rotor discs and circumferentially extending stator coils about the periphery of each rotor disc are fit to a stator housing. Each stator element is then fit radially through the stator housing and secured thereto for straddling the rotor discs.

La présente invention concerne un moteur à réluctance commutée à flux axial qui utilise un ou plusieurs disques rotors espacés le long d'un arbre rotor, chaque disque rotor possédant une pluralité de pôles rotors espacés le long de sa périphérie. Des éléments stators sont distribués de façon circonférentielle autour des disques rotors et forment des paires de pôles stators qui s'étendent de façon radiale pour chevaucher les disques rotors de façon axiale. Des bobines de stator sont allumées pour mettre sous tension des paires de pôles stators pour former un passage de flux axial vers l'intérieur de façon radiale pour faire tourner les pôles rotors pour minimiser le passage de flux avant d'éteindre la bobine de stator. Deux disques rotors ou plus peuvent être indexés de façon rotative pour fournir deux phases de moteur ou plus. Durant la fabrication, des disques rotors et des bobines de stator qui s'étendent de façon circonférentielle autour de la périphérie de chaque disque rotor sont installés sur un logement de stator. Chaque élément stator est alors installé de façon radiale à travers le logement de stator et fixé à celui-ci pour chevaucher les disques rotors.
