AXIAL LOCKING OF AMORTISSEUR BARS Abstract of the Disclosure A rotor for a dynamoelectric Machine, such as a synchronous motor, has a plurality of poles with a number of amortisseur bars per pole. In the past the amortisseur bars were assembled in the wound rotor, and the bars locked against axial movement by brazing a ferrule on both ends of a plurality of bars spaced around the rotor. The ferrules were closely adjacent the respective rotor side and there is a danger that the heat of the brazing operation will damage the windings. according to the present disclosure, for each pole at least two amortisseur bars have a single ferrule brazed on one end of the bar at a respective predetermined distance from the end of the bar. The distance is such that one bar is inserted into the rotor from one side of the rotor to a final position where the ferrule is adjacent the rotor on that side, and the other bar is inserted into the rotor from the other side of the rotor to a final position where the ferrule is adjacent the rotor on that other side. After all the amortisseur bars are inserted, an end ring is brazed or welded to the protruding ends of the bars on each side of the rotor and this will prevent axial movement of all the bars.
