A tubular vessel is loaded with a combination of grinding media and a material to be ground. The vessel is capped to contain the grinding media and material therein. Grinding of the contained material is effectuated by reciprocating 5 the capped vessel in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis. The grinding media may comprise either a ball or a slug, and may further utilizing a plurality of balls, perhaps of different sizes. To increase volume, a plurality of vessels may be gathered together into a sample holder. The sample holder is then reciprocated in a direction parallel to the axes of the included vessels.

Selon l'invention, un récipient tubulaire est chargé avec une combinaison de corps broyants et d'une matière à broyer. Le récipient contenant les corps broyants et ladite matière est alors fermé avec un capuchon. Le broyage de la matière y contenue est réalisé par mouvement alternatif du récipient fermé dans un sens parallèle à son axe longitudinal. Les corps broyants peuvent comprendre un boulet ou un cône de broyage, voire une pluralité de boulets, éventuellement de tailles différentes. En vue d'une augmentation de volume, une pluralité de récipients peuvent être regroupés sur un porte-échantillons. Le porte-échantillons est alors mis en mouvement alternatif dans un sens parallèle aux axes des récipients qu'il supporte.
