Disclosed are novel azabicyclic compounds of the formula (see fig.I) (wherein R1 is preferably cyclohexylmethyl, (C1-C6)alkyl or (C1-C6)alkoxy, Q is preferably -S(=O)2- or -CH2(C=O)-, and Z is preferably -OH, -XCHR2R3 or -CHR9R10, wherein X is preferably oxygen; R2, R3, R9 and R10 preferably are each independently selected from hydrogen, (C1-C12) straight or branched alkyl or aryl-(C1-C12) straight or branched alkyl), pharmaceutical compositions containing them, and the use of such compounds for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and other disorders involving nerve damage.
